HUAWEI Mate XT 2 · The tri-fold stops wearing its screen on the outside

Huawei rebuilt how its tri-fold folds. The flexible 10.2-inch panel now closes away inside the phone and a separate 6.5-inch glass screen sits on the outside, which is how a Mate XT finally gets a water rating: IP58 and IP59, where the Mate XTs had none at all. The inner screen can also switch itself to a narrow viewing angle so the seat next to you sees nothing, the side rails take a 30-second ECG, and the Kirin 9050 Pro debuts here. Prices start at ¥19,999, roughly €2,565, and it is sold only in China.

Apple iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max · The camera finally gets an aperture ring

The iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max look almost exactly like last year's models, and underneath they are the biggest Pro upgrade in years. The 48 MP main camera gains a genuine variable aperture that steps between f/1.48 and f/4, the A20 Pro moves to a 2 nm process and sits on a vapor chamber with three times the surface area, and the Pro Max now claims 45 hours of video – six more than its predecessor. New Pro controls put shutter speed, white balance and a histogram in the stock camera app, and Apple Reference Image cryptographically signs what the sensor saw. From $1,199 / €1,449, on sale 18 September.

Apple iPhone Duo · The first foldable iPhone is a wide fold

Apple has finally built a foldable, and it did not copy the Galaxy Z Fold. The iPhone Duo closes into a squat, passport-shaped phone with a 5.4-inch cover screen and opens sideways into a wide 7.6-inch display in a 1.4:1 shape – the same idea Huawei and Xiaomi got to first. Inside sits the A20 Pro, a vapor chamber and two batteries; outside, grade 5 titanium and a dust-tight IP68 rating that most foldables still cannot claim. It is also 254 grams, and it starts at $1,999 / €2,299 when it reaches shops on 23 October.
